Il me parait intéressant de mettre publiquement la réponse que j'ai apporté à Anne-Marie Pendrill qui m'écrit :

"I am extremely concerned about it (ndr : the contest) !
Primary concern is the safety aspect:
What initial contacts have you made with amusement parks to discuss it?

Second concern is that the way it is set up it encourages the very limited involvement of doing the measurement, but staying away from a serious analysis (which cannot fit into 1 A4).

It certainly does not build on all the high-quality material that has been developed for educational use of amusement parks."

Hello Ann-Marie

Of course the teacher must ensure that the experiments are made safely and respect the parks legislations. But I’m sure that the teachers are aware of their responsibilities and I don’t have to insult them by reminding the obvious obligations of their jobs !!

The aim of the contest it to bring teachers to study physics in amusement parks and to help students to learn a lot of physics while having fun. They may use material developed by amusement parks and material produced fo the Science on Stage Germany iStage 2 « Science with Smartphones » brochure (mainly the part developed by Lorenza Resta, Giovanni Pezzi and Zbigniew Trzmiel) or invent their own experimental conditions.

For this they will have to prepare what to measure with their teacher, then to do a lot of measurements, and to organize and compute the datas they will collect. I never said that this will only take 1 A4 sheet of paper… but they will have to SUMMERIZE their results in a pleasant and easy understandable way in 1 A4 piece of paper. I know it is a challenge… but it is a contest so the challenge is necessary.

I hope that the teachers involved in the contest will help their students to produce more material, perhaps make big posters about it to display in their school to show oh fun serious physics can be.

For the « contest » part, which will mainly be a pretext to bring a challenge in the students work, I remind you that the jury will have to examine and compare all the participants summaries in just a few days to be able to announce the winners in the Science on Stage European Festival of London in June 2015.
